Community partners plan activities to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.

Here is a look at how you can celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day: 

7:30-9:30 a.m.: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Life and Legacy. John Sims, Athletic Director at St. Peter’s Lutheran School will deliver “The Story of Reconstruction.”  This event is a Presentation of African American Pastors Alliance Scholarships. Click here to participate. 

9:45 a.m. OR 11 a.m.: Community Conversations with United Way’s Imagine Columbus. This conversation is part of a series of listening sessions on race relations to better gauge the opinions of those living in our community who have dealt with issues of diversity, inclusion, and equity for their entire lives. Register for either session by clicking here.

11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.: Grab and Go Lunch sponsored by Bartholomew County NAACP, Homeboyz and United Way of Bartholomew County. This free lunch is available at Homeboyz, 1451 Washington St. Volunteers will deliver meals to vehicles on 15th Street.

1-3:30 p.m.: Speaker and Panel Discussion: Speakers include Reinhold Hill, Vice Chancellor and Dean at IUPUC; Kevin Jones, Associate Professor of Management at IUPUC and Slade Crowder, Assistant Chief Medical Offer, Columbus Regional Health. Johnnie Edwards, President of Bartholomew County will moderate a discussion. Click here to participate.  

4-5 p.m.: Silent March: This event begins at the Bartholomew County Public Library Plaza and will end at city hall. Columbus North High School student, Zacaria Scruggs will deliver “I Have a Dream.”
