Within Panama’s city center lies Brooklincito, an urban neighborhood where more than 300 families live — many as squatters. Daisy moved there when she was a teenager, and despite the many risks for young adults like gun violence and drug activity, she found a way to overcome the tremendous hardships in her path.
Now she's giving back in a huge way. Today, Daisy leads an outreach center for young people, the Por Mi Barrio Outreach Centers – a United Way Panama network of community centers. These Centers are located in 19 at-risk communities and are led by inspiring leaders like Daisy, where they offer Panamanian youth with opportunities to educate themselves and develop life plans.
With the help of generous donors and volunteers, Daisy's success story is one that can be replicated for future generations of young people in Brooklincito, Panama.
