It’s January and that can only mean that tax season is upon us. For many of our hardworking neighbors, a tax refund is life-changing. It can be the difference between making rent or living out of their car. But many of these life-changing outcomes only happen when they receive their full tax refund.
United Way of Allen County partners with the Volunteer Center each year to provide free tax prep through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. VITA is an IRS-sponsored and volunteer-run program that provides free tax preparation to individuals and families with a combined household income of $56,000 or less.
This past tax season, VITA volunteers helped prepare 3,095 tax returns, helping our community save $544,720 in tax prep services. The best part? Volunteers helped return $3,565,965 to members of our community.
The tax refunds provided to VITA clients are helping create financially stronger households. You can break down barriers and help United Way in the fight for financial stability for Allen County households. Make a difference with a gift to keep this program running.
Thank you for joining United Way of Allen County in helping even more people this upcoming tax season and investing in our community. To learn more about the VITA program and service sites available visit our website.
