Emergency Relief Funds enabled 5,172 meals to be served through the Grab and Go Supper program at the Renaissance Pointe YMCA as of May 27, 2020.
As of May 27, a total of 2,390 meals to the Phoenix Manor Senior Living complex across from the Renaissance Pointe Y were served/delivered. Residents of the neighborhoods around the Renaissance Pointe Y were already challenged by poverty prior to COVID 19. However, when the pandemic hit, residents faced even greater challenges in caring for their families while being laid off or unemployed.
The nutritious meals provided by the YMCA consisted of a protein, fruit, vegetable, and milk, and ensured that community residents in need had at least 1 healthy meal each day. In the words of a resident of Vincent Village:
"The dinners have been a blessing. As a single parent of two, my time is divided among so many priorities - food, education, leisure time (for my children, not for me), and household responsibilities. The dinners also made it possible for us to avoid the grocery stores and lessened our fear of the pandemic and exposure. I cannot thank the YMCA enough for the help they have provided with these free meals for me and my children."
