With your help, we can connect those in need with critical services to make our community healthier.

Every member of our community deserves a chance to live a long, full life. However, not everyone is able to access affordable healthcare, mental health services, or substance use prevention and treatment necessary to get—and stay—healthy so that they live longer, better. Fortunately, the community resource specialists at 211 Maine are providing the connection to the critical services that can help Mainers live healthier lives.

By dialing 2-1-1 (or 1-866-811-5695), texting your zip code to 898-211, or visiting 211maine.org, anyone in need can get free and confidential information about:

  • Affordable Health Care
  • Insurance Coverage
  • Mental Health Services
  • Medical Transportation
  • Prescription Assistance
  • Substance Use Treatment
  • Stable Housing
  • Heating / Fuel Assistance
  • And more.

The caring experts on the other end of the 211 line listen, identify underlying problems, and connect people with the resources and services that can provide life-changing support.

Thanks to the support of United Ways in Maine and across the county, 211 Maine is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 94.6% of the country is covered by the network of 211 organizations.

What kind of impact does 211 have in our communities? In 2018 alone, 211s throughout the U.S. answered more than 11 million calls and nearly 1 million texts, chats and emails, providing over 12 million connections to help. Locally, 211 Maine helped 9,485 Cumberland County residents from July 2018-June 2019.

One of the common topics that individuals call about every fall is open enrollment for health care coverage. It can be confusing to wade through the options, but health insurance can make all of the difference in living a better life. In addition to calling 211, Maine residents can visit CoverME.gov to find out if they are eligible for a free or low-cost health plan. Open enrollment is November 1 - December 15, so now is the time to explore your options.

When you make a gift to United Way of Greater Portland, you’re helping to support 211 Maine and a national 211 system that connects so many to the resources and services that can change their lives and make our community healthier and stronger. Support 211 by donating today.
