Oak Ridge National Laboratory is a workplace that cares deeply about giving back and lifting up its community and neighbors. Since its inception in 1938, ORNL's mission has been to solve America's toughest challenges, and this mission translates to the organization's long-standing commitment to philanthropy. The Laboratory facilitates corporate grants to organizations that work to improve our community and passionately encourage employee giving - even matching employee gifts up to $500.
ORNL aligns the strengths of its Laboratory and the dedication of its workforce with partners that share their vision to create positive social impact for the communities they serve in East Tennessee. One of those partners is United Way of Greater Knoxville.
The Laboratory has a rich, generous history with United Way of Greater Knoxville. ORNL and its employees have given to United Way for over 30 years and raised millions of dollars for our community over that time. Last year alone, corporate and employee giving to United Way totaled over $278,927!
These donations have helped United Way improve the lives of over 173,800 individuals in Knox and surrounding counties in the past year. With focus areas in health, education, and financial stability, United Way's impact works aligns with ORNL's mission to support STEM, civic, and cultural programs in our community.
Oak Ridge National Laboratory is a huge part of East Tennessee's culture and history, and their efforts to improve local communities makes them more than just a workplace and employer. ORNL's leadership and employees truly care about giving back and taking pride in making our community the best it can be, and this work will only continue to grow.
