“I absolutely love my job”, said Brooke Lane, Shelter Director and Children’s Program Coordinator. “I feel incredibly honored that I get to be a part of it.”Brooke has been part of Fellowship Missions since it began in 2010. Fellowship Missions is the emergency shelter in Warsaw that welcomes men, women and children into a safe, caring environment. The emergency homeless shelter is not a permanent solution for residents, but rather immediate help whenever someone needs a safe place to stay.
Born in Muncie Indiana, Brooke and her family moved to Warsaw in the early 2000’s. She has called Warsaw home for the last 16 years. “I have actually been a part of Fellowship Missions since it started”, said Brooke. “My parents started the shelter in 2010. I started working here almost four years ago! It started when I wanting to come in over the summer to work with the kiddos. I would take them on field trips during the days to give the parents a break and also get the kids out of the shelter for the day to go do something fun!”
According to Brooke, “When we have kiddos in here, I get to work one on one with them as much as possible - whether that be helping with homework, playing Legos, coloring, or just being a listening ear. One of the difficulties with this job is seeing the trauma that our kids have gone through, especially if they are to move out with their parent into a bad living situation. Seeing those things make it very difficult but it pushes me that much harder to try to help as much as I can.”
“I do my job because it is what God has given me a passion for! I love coming to work every single day and getting to work with the kiddos and adults that walk through our doors. It is so rewarding to watch the transformation in lives, while working with them. From that alone, the shelter leaves a major impact on me, as well as hope for others. Something that gets me through a tough time would be just knowing that God has and still is equipping me for this job for a reason. He has gotten us through tough times but in the end, we come out stronger and better because of them.”
Brook says, “Fellowship Missions is a place where people are met right where they are. It doesn’t matter the age, job or no job, or where you are at spiritually. We are here for them. That is what it is all about. Our community is capable of so many great things and I can’t wait to see it all come together one day!”
