A Child's Future Is Determined By Today's Actions

Every Kid Deserves A Chance To be Successful

United We Fight. United We Win. Donate

Every child in our community deserves a chance at success. Together, we can provide educational programs and care programs to prepare children for a bright future.

Connecticut has the widest achievement gap in the US between children from low-income households and their more affluent peers. Families often cannot afford accredited childcare, leading them to alternatives that may limit their child's school-readiness opportunities.

Learning begins at birth, which is why United Way's approach to education takes a cradle-to-career perspective. Social interaction, pre-literacy skills and vocabulary development occur in the earliest years of a child’s life—an all-too-brief window for opportunity to establish and improve these skills.

With the right programs and interventions, we can eliminate the achievement gap and learning disparities between high- and low-income families.

Every child deserves to start school with the same potential for success. United Way of Western Connecticut puts resources towards programs, initiatives and collaboratives that promote strong early education experiences to foster lifelong learning for all children:

  • Expanding the number of licensed family childcare providers in Danbury through Cora's Kids.
  • Subsidizing after-school care to make it more affordable for children ages 5 through 18.
  • Covering the costs of after-school enrichment activities, such as sports, music, theater, and art lessons, for children in low-income families through the ALICE Enrichment Fund.
  • Placing 21 Ready, Set, Let's Read! volunteers in Danbury-area preschool classrooms, with more than 1,500+ books collected and distributed to preschools since the program’s launch.

Your support helps us achieve measurable, lasting impacts on the lives of local families through investments in education and early childhood care. Donate today.
