211: A Vital Service for Help

Through 211, America's needs are brought into focus

Together, We Can

Building a strong community that takes care of everyone who lives here depends on your generous support.

What do people across the country need the most?

We wouldn’t know if it weren’t for 211, a vital service that connects Americans with local resources that address their needs. In the past year, 211 has responded to 2,250 calls and provided help people in our community need.

Another thing we know people need: caring, expert help as they navigate complex challenges in their lives. The real people—trained 211 specialists—on the other end of the 24/7 hotline identify the root causes of a client’s problems and connect them to local resources such as:

  • Housing

  • Food

  • Medical and mental health care

  • Job training

  • Child care and after-school programs

  • Legal assistance

  • Addiction treatment

  • Disaster recovery

  • Transportation

  • Financial coaching

  • Disability resources

  • Veterans services

  • Volunteer opportunities

  • More

211, funded in part by United Way of Central Illinois, fielded more than 11 million calls across the country in 2018, as well as almost 1 million texts, chats, and emails, plus another 13 million web searches. That adds up to tens of millions of lives changed through this vital national service.

Help us keep 211 going. Because everyone faces moments of crisis during life, you never know when you might need to contact 211.
