William is a regular at United Way of Greater Cincinnati's Dearborn and Ohio Counties Agency Center in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. The office has become a consistent resource for basic needs such as phone calls and bus routes; but also for larger needs such as walking through the tax return process and making sure his paperwork is sent and received.

Last year, more than 17,000 local families received more than $20 million in tax refunds through the Regional Volunteer Tax Assistance Collaborative. Community members who take advantage of the service are getting more than just a refund – they’re also building confidence and financial management skills by using MyFreeTaxes, an online program made available by United Way.

In 2012, William was homeless.  He ended up just "stopping by" United Way's office in Lawrenceburg one day, and he's been coming back regularly ever since. William says he is treated "like a king" when he's at United Way.

"They'll help you as much as they can. And if they can't find the sources, then they'll get somebody who can find the sources," he said proudly.

William says that United Way is like a family to him. He is one of 365,000 lives changed annually by our services.
