Increasing High School Graduation Rates

Help Students Become Prepared for College, Work and Life

Gifts of Graduation

Building a strong community that takes care of everyone who lives here depends on your generous support.

84 percent. That’s the percentage of high school kids who graduate on time from public schools in the United States. In one year, over 500,000 young adults will leave high school without a diploma.

{LUW} is committed to ensuring that students stay in school, graduate on time and enroll in post-secondary educational opportunities that will further their career prospects and set them up for successful lives. While the dropout rate has steadily declined since 1970, we believe there is more work to be done to ensure all kids get the same opportunities to succeed.

Many kids drop out of school not by choice but because of obstacles that prohibit them from furthering their education. These young men and women may attend poorly resourced schools, deal with poverty, family crisis, language barriers or a lack of positive role models on a daily basis.

This is where {LUW} and our affiliates step in to create an all-encompassing support system for at-risk youth that starts at an early age and follows the kids every step of the way to ensure they are able to walk across that graduation stage.

In elementary school, we provide wrap-around supports to remove barriers to learning (e.g. dental and vision screenings, parent engagement) and help students read and write at grade level or above to build foundational support for education.

In middle school, we connect students to afterschool and summer programs, academic supports like tutoring, and enriching activities like STEM that help them see the relevance of school to future careers and keep them on track and engaged.

In high school, we support mentorships, college and career readiness initiatives, and connect youth to jobs so young people can explore areas of interest and have experiences that prepare them for college and work.

{NOTE: LUWcan replace the above examples with more specific programs they fund in their local city}

High School Retention

The decision to quit school isn't made in one day. It’s a thought that builds over time. With your help, {LUW} can step in early and support youth as they pass algebra tests, write essays and eventually don their cap and gown, ready for the next steps in their lives.

Your donation today will go directly to funding programs that focus on increasing high school graduation rates in {LUW CITY}.
