From the outside, it may have looked like Eric had a perfectly normal childhood. His father was a minister and well-known figure in the community. What everyone couldn’t see was Eric was sexually abused by his father and two others starting at the age of 5. Alarmingly, statistics show that one in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually assaulted by the time they reach 18.
He sought counseling while in college and after moving to Nashville, discovered the Sexual Assault Center. “Counseling has made such an enormous impact that it is tough to put into words. Abuse affects every aspect of your life. Through counseling, we began to untangle the web and put the pieces back together.”
The Sexual Assault Center is a United Way funded partner agency that works to end sexual violence through counseling, education and advocacy. “I am reaping the benefits of the tools I was given there. I am so much stronger and more self-confident.”
Eric is now a father of two young children, raising them in an open, loving and compassionate household.
